John Scarland’s work is today largely figurative although his earlier work tended towards landscape. He has been a full-time artist since the late 1980s. Prior to that, he worked for many years in landscape design and as a carpenter in the building industry. His work has been exhibited at RWS Open, Mall Galleries, Bourne Gallery in Reigate and at several London art fairs including The World of Watercolours and the Affordable Art Fair. His work is held in a substantial number of private collections.
